Wedding and evening dresses in Berlin The most wonderful day of a woman's life is supposed to be her wedding. For most of them, a beautiful wedding dress is an essential part of the whole ceremony. Every woman's taste is individual, as is her vision of the perfect wedding dress. The same goes for evening dresses, as they are also meant to be for very special occasions. Needless to say, a ball dress or cocktail dress is not to be worn for running errands at the shop around the corner, so it's very important to find a dress that highlights your personality.
What city could be better suited than Berlin for finding the perfect dress? In many big German cities, branches of international fashion chains are placed side by side, removing any sign of individuality. Not so in Berlin. Nowhere else in Germany will you find as many small, unique, independently owned boutiques, not to mention avant-garde and upcoming fashion designers. Trends do not simply arrive in Berlin when they're already dying down somewhere else: Berlin is where trends are created. So if you want to be the star of your own wedding or the highlight at a big event, a trip to one of Berlin's numerous shops for wedding and evening dresses is essential.
Speaking of trends - what is currently trendy in the world of bridal fashion? At the moment it's traditional style, as vintage dresses are more in fashion than ever. Because of this, it is definitely worth checking out one or two of Berlin's second hand shops. Most brides, however, will prefer to get married in a brand new wedding dress. But even with that in mind, something can be found in a retro style. It has become increasingly noticeable that nowadays fashion is falling back on trends from the 20th century; last season's highlight was the 50's and 60's look, thanks to the TV show “Mad Men”. In the same way, the great success of last year's screen adaption of “The Great Gatsby” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is likely the reason that dresses in the style of the 20's and 30's are so trendy at the moment. Corsages, lace sleeves and transparent elements make current wedding dresses very sensual, feminine and seductive.

As usual the colour white still dominates the bridal market. The shades vary from snow white to ivory, and all the way up to creme colours. Some designers even combine the so-called “colour of innocence” with some colourful accents. Some brides, however, prefer to attract attention and get married an a grey, red or even black wedding dress. The tradition of white representing innocence, by the way, was taken literally up until the mid 20th century; only virgins were allowed to get married in a white dress, while all other brides had to wear black. Until the mid twenties it was rather uncommon for lower and middle class people to actually buy a dress for their wedding. They simply got married in their so called “holiday finery” which was just the prettiest dress in their closet. Fortunately, those times are over, so nothing should stand between you and going shopping for a wedding dress in Berlin.
