The “Palace of Tears” is the glass terminal building at the train station Friedrichstrasse, which was built for the departure from East to West Berlin. This was the place where East Berliner had to take leave of their western visitors – in the consciousness to be able to cross this border for the first time as a retiree. There were usually shed a lot of tears and in reference to the “Palace of the Republic”, this house was just the “Palace of Tears.” Directly in front located is bridge over the Spree with the Prussian eagle in the bridge railing.
