Charlottenburg Palace

Spandauer Damm 20-24, 14059 Berlin
Charlottenburg

Here resided Sophie-Charlotte, the grandmother of Frederick the Great and after her the whole village of former Alt-Lietzow was renamed “Charlottenburg”. Before the Sanssouci Palace was finished, it was also used by the “Old Fritz”. After the 2nd World War the castle was fortunately spared the fate of other castles – the demolition was prevented by a small majority of one vote! Part of the castle is being renovated (end of 2013), but the castle park alone is worth a visit, also located in close proximity to other museums and galleries (Bergruen collection and the Belvedere Pavilion).
